Bloomin' Good Book Party
'Tis the season for books to be in bloom. At least that was the case at the uber trendy Bungalow Club on Melrose in Hollywood . . .

That was the site fellow LAYA Michael Reisman's book launch party for Simon Bloom: The Octopus Effect. (BTW, does anyone else always get "effect" and "affect" mixed up?) . . .

Peepy was quite impressed by the chic-ness of the place. She also loved the food, especially the bookish cakes . . .

Later, she cornered Andrea Brown literary agent Jamie Weiss Chilton, and tried to wrangle book deal . . .

However, Jamie was apprehensive having heard of Peeps' run-in with Curtis Brown agent Ginger Knowlton when Peepy broke agent/author-to-be protocol and tried to slip Ginger a manuscript in the bathroom . . .

Meanwhile, Michael entertained us by juggling and donning his bathrobe to read from his books . . .

Above: Author Betty Birney, on the left, was so moved by Michael's (inexplicable) Irish accent, that she began to sob and had to wipe away her tears.

Good luck with your latest Simon Bloom book, Michael!

(BTW, that's author Amy Goldman Koss lurking in the shadows.)

(yeah, that's where we live...thought it made for a cute continuation of your joke *grin*)

Affect/effect I have no problems with, but farther/further always throw me for a loop.

Ds#1 is excited about the new Simon Bloom book, so thanks for the heads up (he also enjoyed your blog post about it)!

Looks like a good time (the book cakes are very clever).

I saw Geektastic at Borders today!

P.S. Do you have to be a published (book) author to join the LAYAs? Just wondering about the requirements. (Cecil told me I should be a member. I don't live in L.A. County anymore, either, but I don't mind driving.)

Really? GEEKTASTIC is out already???!!! I had no idea!

(To be a LAYA you need to be under contract or published my a major publisher, and live in the Los Angeles area.)

Okay, thanks for the info.

Yeah, I was surprised to see the book, even though I couldn't remember the release date.

I'm wigged out by the near non-presence of writers from non-dominant cultures in a lot of the group pix on author blogs. I'm sure it's random but gorsh, makes me feel lonely already. Are that few writers of minority cultures being published even today? By the way, Lisa, I met you in Hawaii at the Book/Music Festival and you are the greatest.

If you'd like to get wigged out even more, check out these statistics . . . http://www.education.wisc.edu/ccbc/books/pcstats.asp
