Hanging with Carol Burnett
Tomorrow, as people watch, I'll be attempting to figure out how my being Chinese has effected/affected my writing. Teen has (repeatedly) warned me, "Some of my friends will be there, so you'd better not embarrass me."

Who me?

This Sunday, March 18th, I will be hobnobbing with CAROL BURNETT! and THE MAYOR OF LOS ANGELES! and LOTS OF OTHER CELEBS at the Fabulous EXPLORE-A-STORY Event in Hollywood. The Celebs might not realize I am hobnobbing with them, but I won't let that stop me.

(I love Carol Burnett!)

Also, I'll be on stage reading from the Millie Trilly at 2:30 p.m.

John Lithgow goes on before me and I'm the last author of the day. Sigh. What if no one shows up? I'm always scared no one's going to show up.

If a tree falls in the forest and no one hears it, does it make a noise? If an author reads from their book and no one hears them, do the words matter? (I was trying to think of something deep to write, but that's all I came up with.)

Hey! Here's something that may be fun. In honor of Explore-a-Story, I want to try a BLOG-A-STORY-A-THON. Oh wait! You know what, I think the Blog-a-Story deserves a separate blog all it's own, don't you?

It'll be over here . . . CLICK HERE FOR BLOG-A-STORY-A-THON.

Don't worry about nobody showing up, just have a great time!

Carol and John must be so excited to meet you! I know I would be.
Tell Carol I said hello. I am sure she would remember me, I walked passed her once in New York!

Lisa, I've loved Carol Burnette since I was very young girl - many many moons ago. She spoke at my elementary school! But, I must say, I though she was, you know, like dead. Glad she's still kicking it! jacky

You're spinning this all wrong -- you should totally be all "John Lithgow is opening for me at Explore-a-Story". Maybe you can do a reading from Stanford and convince John to chug a Coke and burp. Or Carol, although I think I'd have a hard time buying her as Stanford, since she has red hair.

"I'm always scared no one's going to show up. "

And yet, they always do, right?

Please say they do!

Um. Okay, I'll say it, "they always do." (But sometimes they don't.)

LOL Okay, so I kind of knew you'd say that. I've chosen the chicken's method of promotion and stuck to mostly book fairs and events where someone will definitely show up...just not necessarily for me. Warm bodies in the room will make me feel better.

In my diary from 4th grade I wrote (several times) that I wanted to grow up and be just like Carol Burnet! Oh, I think her sketch show was incredible! And Broadway!
Though I never got over the pain of her losing her daughter, Carrie- then she wasn't just funny, she was someone's mom.

My daughter always says back to me, "If a tree falls in the forest...do all the other trees laugh at it?"

I think she saw it on a T-shirt.

Hope it went well. Can't imagine that it didn't.
