The Making of MAYBE, plus Famous Illustrators and Authors Caught on Tape!

Hey! Over at Cheryl Klein's blog she's chronicling the making of ABSOLUTELY MAYBE and how my editors, Arthur Levine and Cheryl herselfness, and Moi, approached the creative process.

Here's a candid photo of the three of us discussing plot, theme and, the, overuse, of commas . . .

And here's an except of our conversation . . .

Lisa: "ABSOLUTELY MAYBE came out of nowhere. Well, not exactly nowhere, but it did take me by surprise . . ."

So, what did I do Super Book Sunday? I went to Vroman's and stared at my book which was facing out all on it's own!!!

And look at this candid photo. I love it!

Speaking of MySpace (I was seeing if I could trick you into thinking we were), I've fixed the ABSOLUTELY MAYBE page so you can Friend it without having to know my social security number.

The talented-and-he-makes-the-rest-of-us-look-like-slackers Jarrett J. Kroscozka . . .

. . . debuted this ABSOLUTELY wonderful video at the SCBWI Conference in New York. It features some of the top names in children's literature like Jon Scieszka, the Ambassador of Children's Literture, Mo Willems, Adam Rex, Jeanne Birdsall, Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy, and even a sorta-cameo drive-by mention of a certain Peep . . .

What kinds of "treats" are Peepy and Betty Birney having there? It looks like sweet potato chips? Whatever they are, I looked at that picture and thought TREATS should have been way more in caps than COFFEE was, but I'm pregnant so I get that way.

Also, the library where I recently was the temp teen librarian is having an anti-Valentines party too; if I was still there I'd get a copy of Absolutely Maybe as soon as possible to include in that display myself, but since I'm not there it'll probably miss that deadline....

Jarrett's Video

Sorry about cutting you off like that, Lisa. I forgot to leave enough time for Jarrett to splice in your audio. It wasn't his fault -- he's a terrific director, except when he's making you laugh so much you can't remember what you're doing.
